DALLAS and PHILADELPHIA (Audacy) — Every year when the calendar reaches October, diets all over the country get ruined as Halloween candy begins to take over supermarket shelves.
This year is no different, as many are stocking up early with October right around the corner.
It appears Pennsylvanians' favorite choice for Halloween sugar highs come from a candy first made in Philadelphia 130 years ago.
Zippia released a map from a study using Google Trends that has revealed the candy of choice for each state in 2021, and the Keystone State's top pick is Good & Plenty.
The Quaker City Chocolate and Confectionery Company created the capsuled licorice candy in Philadelphia in 1893. Another Pennsylvania company, Hershey's, now produces the well-distributed Halloween treat.
What Zippia also found was that Twix and Kit Kat were the number one choices in most states, and the majority of states prefers chocolate over a gummy or fruit flavored option.
States represented in the Delaware Valley seem to buck that chocolate trend. New Jersey Halloween trick-or-treaters most enjoy Sour Patch Kids, while Delaware's favorite is Jersey-made Smarties.
