PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — After a series of alarming incidents at Center City SEPTA stations over the weekend, 13 people were taken into custody. Three people were arrested in connection with three armed robberies, and 10 others were taken in for a couple of disturbances that resulted in a woman falling onto the tracks at a subway stop.
Late Sunday night, police say, they arrested a suspected gunman who they believe was involved in the Saturday robberies. This was just hours after they took into custody two others who were with him.
The first robbery was around 2 p.m. at the SEPTA concourse below City Hall. Police say an armed man demanded money from someone. Later that night, police say, the suspect struck again with a similar incident at the 30th Street Station on the Market-Frankford Line concourse. And after that, police say, he held up two people, forced them to get cash from an ATM, and then ran away with the money.
None of the victims was hurt. Police have not yet released the identities of the three people they arrested.
Unrelated to these robberies, SEPTA Transit Police took 10 juveniles into custody Sunday night after a group of teens caused disturbances at the 8th Street and 11th Street stations along the Market-Frankford Line.
At 11th Street, SEPTA said, a woman was pushed onto the tracks. SEPTA cut off power to the tracks, and she was able to get out with only a minor injury to her wrist. At 8th Street, one of the teens tried to push a man onto the tracks, but he fought back. He was injured with a punched to the face.
