PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Montgomery County woman is facing child endangerment charges after authorities said her son brought her gun to his elementary school.
It happened at Gotwals Elementary School in Norristown last week.
According to the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office, Jasmin Devlin’s two sons found her 9 mm handgun at home. Her 6-year-old put it in his Marvel-themed backpack and brought it with him on the school bus the following morning.
He showed the gun and loose bullets to some classmates, who immediately reported it to the school secretary. She called the boy to the office and took the weapon.
The boy told police he and his 10-year-old brother took the gun from their mother’s dresser drawer and played with it the night before.
Detectives later learned 30-year-old Devlin had purchased the gun illegally.
The mother surrendered to police, and she is now charged with felony endangerment of the welfare of a child and reckless endangerment.
She is being held on $50,000 bail.
