Burlington County smartphone program connects job seekers to new employers

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Burlington County is helping job seekers and small businesses connect through your smartphone, in a program that is free and open to everyone countywide.

The Burlington County Workforce Development Board launched the new "Engage by Cell" pilot program this summer with a small number of job seekers.

It has expanded countywide to every resident who wants to enroll.

"It's a platform that is a text messaging feature," said Burlington County Workforce Development's Zahirah Sabir.

"It's free of charge, and it's something to keep you up to date on hiring practices, things that are happening within the county regarding employment and training."

Once you enroll, you'll will receive text message alerts about upcoming job fairs or training programs. You'll also receive periodic career-readiness tips.

"Our economy and the nation's economy is built off of small businesses, so we can't afford to to have such a strain put on those business owners," Sabir said.

"It's our job to figure out ways and different resources to connect them, to make sure that they're staying in business."
