Camden Country recruiting nurses to administer COVID-19 vaccine

CAMDEN, N.J. (NYW Newsradio) -- Officials in Camden County are anticipating the arrival of COVID-19 vaccines in the coming months, and they are looking for nurses to help administer the shots at county sites.

After vaccines from Moderna, Johnson & Johnson and others drugmakers are approved and widely available, county Freeholder Lou Cappelli says they need to be ready to administer the shots right away.

Plans are still in the works, but the key thing for county officials is to have qualified people who can give shots to residents.

"We're looking for registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, medical professionals who have active licenses and certifications for facilitating and deploying the vaccine."

He says the county needs their skills because not enough medical professionals are employed for the work.

And this isn’t a volunteer situation.

"We will pay them a very good rate. And we’re hoping to attract as many people as possible," Cappelli said.

He says there’s no information available now on how many vaccines will be available, or when they will arrive, but they want to be ready to go when that happens.
