CAMDEN, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — Lunch and a show is the plan in Camden this summer. While many people will be attending big concerts at the Freedom Mortgage Pavilion, the city will host live local artists in a park every Tuesday afternoon.
From noon until 2 p.m., good vibes will fill the air near City Hall. Local artists will play for the lunch crowd at Roosevelt Plaza Park and everyone is invited.
Vedra Chandler, project manager with Camden Community Partnership, said the goal is to make the city a more fun place to work and visit.
"This is something that we're really excited to bring back post-COVID," she said. "It's an opportunity for us to bring some music and fun and vibrancy to this downtown city park, that is also a cool sight to see in itself."
Chandler said they are committed to using local artists. She hopes this is the platform for some of them to launch into big music careers.
"We've got folks that were born and raised in Camden, folks in Camden County, a few guests from across the river in Philly," she said. "We love our local artists. We want to show them off to everybody. We want to show them to the world."
According to Chandler, the lunchtime shows are the best way for people who work in the city and residents to all enjoy the music. There are other fun activities planned as well, like salsa dancing lessons. And there are plenty of food options in and around the park, like the recently opened Lunchbox outside City Hall.
Chandler said they have several other events planned all over the city this summer. A full list is available online.
