CAMDEN (KYW Newsradio) — Earth Day-themed works of art are being unveiled in Camden, New Jersey on Thursday.

The artwork focuses on the illegal dumping of waste that costs the city more than $4 million a year, according to officials there.

The six large art installations will adorn different parts of Camden, with some of them visible to PATCO riders. Officials want to encourage them to visit the city.

"Instead of seeing sites that have illegal dumping on materials on them, they'll see beautiful sculptures," said Kris Kolluri with Cooper's Ferry Partnership.

He explains that the art is made up of illegally dumped materials. It focuses on a problem the city is fighting against, and how the city is rejuvenating and reinventing itself.

"We understand that the art installations are temporary, but we are convinced that the impact is going to be long lasting," said Kolluri.

The $1 million project will be on display for the next six months.

"I think these are going to be the most Instagram-able sculptures in the area," said Kolluri.
