SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Two vehicles were stolen from a resident’s garage in Mantua Township, Gloucester County over the weekend, and police believe it was the work of a sophisticated organized crime group from North Jersey.
Investigators believe the group dropped off the thieves at a home and used a radio frequency identification (RFID) reader to open the automatic garage doors.
The cars were unlocked and the keys were nearby, so the criminals were able to drive off without much effort, police said.
The vehicles stolen were a Range Rover and Dodge TRX pickup truck.
The New Jersey State Police Auto Theft Task Force is investigating further.
Officials remind the public of the importance of locking car doors and securing keys inside the house. Older anti-theft devices, like steering wheel locks, are still good deterrents as well.
