PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Pottstown man was arrested after police say he rear-ended a driver in Lancaster County and fled in a truck that he stole during a car dealership test drive.
On Nov. 3 around 11 a.m., police responded to a hit-and-run in New Holland Borough.
The driver who was hit told officers that a black truck rear-ended her. Her car only had minor damage, and she was not injured. The truck fled, but the driver caught a glimpse of the license plate.
Police ran the plate and it came back to the John Sauder Chevrolet car dealership.
Authorities learned at the dealership that the truck had been taken for a test drive but was never returned. Workers gave police a copy of the suspect’s driver’s license, identifying the man as 43-year-old Chad Rudolph of Pottstown.
Police say Rudolph had multiple warrants.
Upon further investigation, officials say Rudolph had driven a Mercedes to the Chevrolet dealership, which had been stolen from a separate dealership in Chester County.
Authorities apprehended Rudolph in the stolen truck a few days later, following a car chase in Chester County.
Rudolph is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, and related driving offenses.
He remains in the Chester County Prison.
