PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — When asked on Monday about Vice President Kamala Harris’ impending choice for running mate, Mayor Cherelle Parker said she doesn’t have any inside knowledge — but she left little doubt as to her preference.
“If the Eagles, the Phillies, the Flyers, the Sixers are in the playoffs, I’m rooting for the home team at all costs,” she said.
The mayor made her comments Monday at a City Hall news conference.
Harris has said she will announce her choice on Tuesday morning, preceding her first campaign rally with her running mate later in the day in Philadelphia — which has already fueled speculation that she has chosen Gov. Josh Shapiro.
Parker also caused a commotion on Friday when she posted a video on X showing several Philadelphia-area officials and Democrats promoting Harris for president, and also playing up her preference for Shapiro to join her on the ticket.
“I’m sitting and waiting on pins and needles like the rest of the world to find out who it will be," she said Monday. "But again, I don’t and I won’t apologize for rooting for the home team.”
