PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) Operation Ten City, a faith-based tour with a goal of transforming impoverished cities one at a time, is coming to Philadelphia.

Pastor David Winston, international director of Bill Winston Ministries, said the mission of Operation Ten City is to help close the wealth gap for Black and brown communities.

“We know that as a church group, we want revival, we want spiritual things to happen. But we also believe that there should be an economic revival as well,” he said.

The movement is the brainchild of Dr. Bill Winston and Chicago-based Bill Winston Ministries.  Philadelphia is the fifth stop on the tour. It began last year in St. Louis.

The initiative is hosting a free event at the Pennsylvania Convention Center on Friday and Saturday, featuring panel discussions, wealth-building master classes, a business pitch competition, a career fair and community outreach events.

“It’s not so much that this is only faith-oriented,” said one of the participants, Dr. Deloris Thomas. She serves as the president of the Joseph Business School, a Christian college in Forest Park, Illinois. “But we believe a way of closing that wealth gap is for the community to be involved.”

“We’re trying to change the narrative,” Winston added. “Instead of asking for a handout, we’re coming to put a hand in and we’re coming to sow to the community of Philadelphia and surrounding areas.”
