Community College of Philadelphia requiring COVID-19 vaccinations

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Community College of Philadelphia is requiring students and staff to be vaccinated against COVID-19.

Effective Oct. 1, students who are not vaccinated will be subject to regular COVID-19 testing.  Those who test positive will not be allowed on campus.

Beginning Jan. 18, 2022, the grace period will end, and those who are not vaccinated will not be allowed into campus buildings. Unvaccinated students will be encouraged to take classes online.

CCP is accepting medical or religious exemptions for the vaccine. The college is operating at 50% capacity this fall, and masks will be required for all, regardless of vaccination status.

In a statement, college President Guy Generals said requiring COVID-19 vaccines is an important step in keeping the college community safe from the more contagious delta variant.

Generals said the delta strain “is devastating young unvaccinated African-Americans,” and with people of color making up 72% of the college population, CCP has to do all it can to protect the college community.

CCP is also offering counseling for students who want to know more about their vaccine options.

CCP joins Saint Joseph’s, Penn, Drexel and other area colleges with a vaccine mandate.
