PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — COVID-19 cases continued their steady decline as Pennsylvanians anticipate the coming summer months.
Across the commonwealth, there were 2,400 fewer new cases in the seven-day period that ended Friday than there were the week before. The seven-day average of new cases across Pennsylvania is 687.
In comparison, the spring spike peaked around 5,000 cases per day in mid-April before steadily dropping. The winter spike before that hit about 10,000 cases in mid-December.
Statewide, the COVID-19 positivity rate is 3.6%, down from almost 10% in mid-April. Under 5% is the goal.
In southeastern Pennsylvania, the counties are seeing positivity rates under 2.5%.
Delaware County's seven-day daily average is down to 30 per day. Last month, it was 240. The county's positivity rate is down to 2.2%, down from around 9% in April.
Chester County's positivity rate dropped to 2.2%, while its seven-day average of new cases dropped to 66 per day. Last month, it was over 200 per day.
Bucks County’s positivity rate dropped to 2.5%. Its daily average dropped to 25 per day, a fraction of the spring high of 278 per day.
Montgomery County's seven-day average peaked at 228 in April. Now it's down to 28. The county's positivity rate is down to 2.5%.
