PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A group of Delaware County Little League fans boarded a bus chartered by the county so they could cheer on the Media team at the Little League World Series in Williamsport. Family and fans held a pep rally — complete with the Phillie Phanatic — before departing to watch their team play in person.

Fans say the game, Wednesday at 7 p.m., highlights the greatness of Delaware County.

“It just brings everybody together as one,” said Donna Fooks of Brookhaven, who boarded the fan bus with her friends.

“It's so nice to see children being celebrated. And I think the entire county is just behind them. We're just so proud of them.”

And she said it’s an awesome feeling to cheer on local kids.

“You know, it's no different than being a Phillies fan or an Eagles fan. It's the same thing.”

Tyler Allen of Media said it’s great for the community. “I lived in Media all my life, so it's great to see the community come together to support the team, and we're just happy for them.”

Edmund Homa of Media took the three-hour ride on the chartered bus with his parents.

“I'm very excited and I also brought a ball so I might be able to get it signed,” said the 10-year-old. “It is very inspiring. And I love it.”

Angelo Osorio of Ridley Park explained what it’s like to see kids his age playing in the Little League World Series — “It's like a dream come true for them. I wish I could be up there like that. They’re really good.”

Asked what baseball means to him, the 11-year-old answered: “Everything.”

Some of the adult fans say they’re reliving their childhood through these young athletes.

“It's awesome,” said Jim Ficarra. “It was a dream when I was a kid, so it's awesome to see other kids live it out.”

Amanda Borders said not even being eight-months pregnant could have stopped her and her 11-year-old son Colton from seizing a last-minute opportunity to get to Williamsport.

“We got an email saying that, you know, they had an extra ticket — so we hopped in the car and are gonna drive three hours up there.”

Fans said the young athletes have become local superstars.

Borders said the Little League World Series is particularly exciting for her family because her son played with Media Little League superstar Trevor Skowronek.

“They played for the Westchester dragons. Trevor's on the NL team, Colin's on the AL team. It's just a great group. The kids are amazing, win or lose. They just all have such great attitudes. And it's really great to see.”

And some of the fans say they’ll continue to cheer on the kids as they develop into adult players.

“Who knows — we may be seeing them on the Phillies one day. You don't know,” said Patty McKeone of Brookhaven.
