MEDIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — A drive-thru vaccination clinic has opened this weekend in Delaware County, at the Media campus of Delaware County Community College.
Johnson and Johnson's single-dose vaccine is being administered at the site, with a goal of more than 2,000 doses over the weekend.
Simplicity is the goal here, along with vaccinating as many people as possible. The site will be open every weekend for at least the next seven weeks. Director of emergency services Timothy Boyce said you won't even have to get out of your car.
"Most folks will drive, just like you're seeing, through one of these three tents, two-lane tents," he explained. "They'll pull their car in, they'll get their last check of the paperwork and they'll get their shot. It's that simple."
After getting the jab, Boyce said people will pull into another parking lot for monitoring to ensure there are no adverse reactions.
"You'll then pull into these lots behind us that are staggered and we'll manage that appropriate time for you to stay with us. We'll make sure you're well before you drive off this campus," he said.
COVID-19 task force director Rosemarie Halt said they hope to reach half of the county's adult population at this site and others in the next two months.
"In the next seven weeks, we hope to vaccinate 140,000 Delaware County residents, just as the county," she said.
Doses of the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines will be available at other sites in the county to reach that number.
The Media site is only open to groups 1A and 1B right now, and appointments are required. You can go to delcopa.gov/vax to make an appointment.
Delaware County Councilwoman Elaine Paul Schafer said everyone should make an appointment at one of the sites once they are eligible.
"And if you can't, for some reason, we'll help you," she said. "We have a home-bound access program. You can call up and have them come to you if you're home bound."
To make an appointment through that program, call (484) 276-2100.
