Delaware officials say they plan to follow CDC’s COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Delaware plans to follow the CDC's guidelines when it comes to giving out the first COVID-19 vaccines.

Dr. Rick Hong, medical director of Delaware’s Division of Public Health, said they’re taking the CDC’s recommendations to heart. But the state also wants to take a close look at its own needs.

“We want to look at our statewide data and trends and make recommendations based on that as well too, so it’s not just copying and pasting recommendations. We want to make sure it includes our needs within the state,” Hong explained.

He said they have new online resources which include vaccine fact sheets for the public and helpful information for medical providers.

“There are also questions about safety and hopefully, the website will provide additional information on the safety profiles of both these vaccines, but we also want to have testimonials of real Delawareans who are planning to get vaccinated and you can kind of read their stories and find out why they want to get vaccinated,” he added.

All this, he said, comes as Delaware’s ethics group keeps looking around to see what other experts are saying about the vaccine and the best distribution practices.
