PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Delaware County is in the process of administering COVID-19 vaccines to health care workers and others on the front lines of the pandemic. As the county prepares for the next phase of immunizations, health officials are looking for some extra help.
The Citizen Corps of Delaware County is looking for about 1,000 volunteers, both with medical and non-medical backgrounds, who can offer assistance with the vaccine administration process in the coming months.
“If one-third of them are medically trained, that would be great,” said Ed Kline, volunteer management coordinator for the Delaware County Department of Emergency Services.
“It gives people the opportunity to help themselves, their communities and the county in general to do great things. It’s much more than signing up, taking the training and working at a site. It’s a movement.
“We will need them all to get this done.”
In addition to medical professionals, the county needs volunteers with administrative, organizational and communication skills.
“We have to have greeting and screening and registration, so being a good communicator to the public,” he said, “being able to enter data, being able to share that information with other volunteers, direct vehicles or pedestrians through the various venues.”
Interested volunteers can find more information at delcocitizencorps.com. The next online volunteer orientation is Jan. 14.
