PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Delaware County is headed to the big screen.
“Delco: The Movie” will begin filming later this month. For writer, director and producer Chris Pierdomenico, this project has been 20 years in the making. He shot his first full-length film in high school in 2004, and he’s had this idea ever since.
“In those 20 years, I’ve written, directed, produced short films, podcasts, all sort of projects, but I kept coming back to that,” he said.
Pierdomenico, who grew up in Aston, Brookhaven and Parkside, said this project is a coming-of-age film that’s also serves as a tribute to Delaware County.
“The movie is about three friends that decide to break rules for the first time in their lives — one crazy night in Delco,” he said.
He plans to show off landmarks from all over the county, too.
“I want people to be able to watch this and say, ‘Oh I’ve been there,’” he said. “We’re going to go to Tom Jones, we’re also going to be filming at Media Theatre and a couple other locations — you’re going to have to wait and see.”

Leah Cevoli, a cast member and crowdfunding campaign manager for the film, was also raised in Delco. She recently moved back after living in LA for 20 years, and she’s excited to reconnect with her roots.
“The thing that’s been most moving to me is seeing how many local people are getting involved,” she added.
The movie has exceeded its $30,000 fundraising goal. Pierdomenico, who also teaches high school film and TV, said working on this project is a dream come true.
“A lot of this is my story, but I really want it to be our story, meaning all of us from Delco.”
