Doug Mastriano concedes Pa. governor’s race to Josh Shapiro

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Doug Mastriano has conceded the election for Pennsylvania governor to Democrat Josh Shapiro.

The Republican made the announcement in a 13-minute video posted to Facebook on Sunday. Shapiro was declared the projected winner late Tuesday night.

“As difficult as it is to accept the results, there’s no other course but to concede,” Mastriano said in the video, “which I do, and I look to the challenges ahead. Josh Shapiro will be our next governor.

“I ask everyone to give him the opportunity and they pray that he makes the decisions that are beneficial for the state and not necessarily for his party, and that he leads well.”

Shapiro joined KYW Newsradio live Friday morning and said at that point, Mastriano hadn’t yet contacted him to concede the race. Shapiro replied, “But who cares? The people pick the winner, not him.”

Mastriano has reiterated many of former President Donald Trump’s false claims of voter fraud in the 2020 election. However, Mastriano’s senior legal adviser, Jenna Ellis, a former Trump aide, stated unequivocally there were no signs of serious voting irregularity in 2022.

“We can’t just say, ‘Oh my gosh, everything was stolen.’ I mean, that’s ridiculous for this election,” Ellis said on her podcast, “The Jenna Ellis Show.”
