PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An Arizona-style election audit could be coming soon to Pennsylvania if a group of Republican state senators has their way — even after counties denied their requests.
That group has asked three counties, including Philadelphia, to turn over election-related materials. Last week, Philadelphia City Commissioners denied that request.
Tioga County also declined. York County didn’t say no but questioned the legality of the move.
The group is led by Central Pennsylvania Republican state Sen. Doug Mastriano. He told conservative cable network Newsmax he plans to use the Senate Intergovernmental Operations Committee to issue subpoenas — a committee he chairs.
Mastriano would likely be able to get the votes, as allies and fellow Republicans Chris Dush, David Argall, Chris Gebhard and Judy Ward all sit on that committee.
The Department of Justice recently said turning over ballots or hard drives to a non-elections official could violate the Civil Rights Act.
