PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Drexel University and the University of Pennsylvania are joining other institutions of higher learning in requiring students to get COVID-19 vaccinations before returning to campus in the fall.

“I think it’s a good thing,” one student told NBC 10.

Most students seem to be on board with it, if the vaccines are needed to get back to normal. Some have said they just want to enjoy the college experience.

"It’s one of those controversial things, where you want it to get back to normal, but at the same time you don’t want to force people to get the vaccine," another student told NBC 10, "but I think overall it’s probably for the better."

Penn is offering vaccines on campus for students who don’t get their shots in time, but those students would have to quarantine for two weeks between doses.

Drexel officials say they are still figuring out how the university will enforce the rule. They said some type of proof of vaccination will be required, like a vaccination card from the CDC.

Officials at both schools don’t expect compliance to be a problem, as they say most students want to be vaccinated.
