PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Since the Eagles are in Pittsburgh this week, the crowd cheers will be real for the first time this season, per a new state order. But not all of the noise at Heinz Field will be boos.
Meghan Schaefer and Joe McEnhill live in Center City, but this weekend they already had plans to go west.
"One of my best friends lives in Pittsburgh, so we had actually planned to come visit her because she's a Steelers fan," said Schaefer. "We were gonna just watch the game at a bar."
Then Gov. Tom Wolf loosened restrictions on crowd sizes. When they saw the possibility of cheering on their Birds in person, they looked at tickets immediately.
"They weren't that bad actually, so we were spontaneous and just kinda like, 'Let's just book it,'" recalled Schaefer.
"This is our first time in Pittsburgh and now we get to go to an Eagles game too," said McEnhill. "This is just a win."
Heinz Field typically holds more than 68,000 fans, but Schaefer and McEnhill are just two of 5,500 allowed inside, with masks required.
But for this Philly couple, being socially distanced was an important factor.
"It's honestly pretty awesome only having 5,500 people and not like, 60,000," confessed McEnhill.
There's still no tailgating, so this duo entered the stadium with plans to simply stay with their group and not get close to others.
"It's just fun all around plus this is like historical, I feel like," said Schaefer, to which McEnhill replied, "Yeah, it's an added bonus."
Philadelphia officials still haven't announced plans for fans attending Eagles home games in South Philly.
