PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — School is back in session this week. Some stores have already stocked their shelves with Halloween decor. And many coffee shops are pouring seasonal pumpkin spice lattes.
Although many people are ready to jump into fall, Mother Nature has other plans.
The National Weather Service predicts this week will feel a lot more like the middle of the summer. Meteorologists say temperatures will be in the low- to mid-90s in the Philadelphia region over the next few days.
In fact, the region could break some extreme heat-related records. According to the National Weather Service, Philadelphia recorded its highest Labor Day temps in 2018: 93 degrees on Sept. 4, and 95 degrees on Sept. 5 and 6.
The Philadelphia School District has already said it plans to dismiss more than 70 schools early on Tuesday and Wednesday, as they have inadequate cooling systems or no air conditioning at all.
