PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Philadelphia rock band surprised the children of Horatio B. Hackett Elementary School in Fishtown on Wednesday with a pop-up performance and a donation of instruments.
The band Mo Lowda & the Humble teamed up with national non-profit Can'd Aid to bring joy to the kids' day with a live performance, and a variety of instruments that they did not waste any time getting into and playing.
“I loved it! I loved all the songs and the creativity. Like it was, like, awesome!” an excited Olivia said.
Principal Todd Kimmel said he was happy to host the band and accept the donations, as this is the second time the band is giving back.
“They reached out again because they wanted to give back to the community," Kimmel said.
"They do live in the neighborhood here, so it’s a special partnership.”
Band member Shane Woods said it’s important to expose kids to music and the arts.
“Most artists will say that it usually takes that one person teacher or parent to push you, and we have to keep those things going," said Woods.
"Otherwise, the kids won’t know that it’s an option for them.”
The band is one of Can’d Aid’s Tunes Ambassadors which travel the country, host music workshops, and donate instruments to underserved schools.
