PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Pennsylvania gubernatorial candidate Josh Shapiro has broken a record, significantly outpacing his opponent in campaign fundraising.
According to campaign finance filings, between June and September alone, Shapiro raked in more than $25 million. Republican challenger Doug Mastriano raised a little more than $3 million over the same period.
Shapiro’s massive cash haul brings the Democrat’s fundraising total this cycle to more than $50 million — the most any gubernatorial candidate has raised in the state’s history.
This beats the previous record set by former Gov. Ed Rendell, who raised about $42 million during his 2002 campaign.
Following the filings, the latest CBS News poll shows Shapiro leading Mastriano by 11 points among likely voters.
