PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — An additional award of $5,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of 17-year-old Dayron Burney-Thorn.

Authorities say he is one of five people who ambushed 14-year-old Nicholas Elizalde – and others – at the end of a football scrimmage outside of Roxborough High School on Sept. 27, 2022. He is wanted in connection to Elizalde's shooting death. The other four suspects have since been arrested.

Burney-Thorn’s current whereabouts are unknown, but U.S. Marshals in Philadelphia say in November 2022 Burney-Thorn was hiding in the Atlanta, Georgia, area. They say his last known address was on the 2900 block of Bambrey Street in Philadelphia.

On Monday, Elizalde’s mother, Meredith, made a plea to the public in hopes that someone will come forward so her son can finally have justice.

“What I’m hoping for today is that people in Atlanta, or wherever, recognize him, hear my pain and turn him in,” she said.

She remembers her son as a kind boy with a gentle nature.

“He wanted to make the world a better place, and he did.”

The reward now stands at $50,000. To submit a tip, visit USMS Tips App or
