SOUTH JERSEY (KYW Newsradio) — Days away from the election, New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy has an 11-point lead over challenger Jack Ciattarelli, according to the Monmouth University’s final poll on the governor’s race.

Half of the registered voters told the survey they will give the Democratic incumbent another term, while 39% said they support the Republican.

Poll director Patrick Murray said Ciattarelli “chipped away at Murphy’s lead” in a couple of debates and plenty of TV ads, but he “hasn’t delivered the knockout he needs.”

Days before the Nov. 2 election, Ciattarelli told KYW Newsradio he thinks the race is too close to call.

“So we’re right where we need to be with five days to go, and I’m looking forward to the outcome," he said.

Ciattarelli said he’s traveled to every pocket of the state during his campaign, and he believes people are fed up with the way things are going.

“The people of New Jersey are frustrated by never-ending problems, like the highest property taxes in the nation and New Jersey being the worst state in the country in which to do business,” he said. “That’s what this campaign is all about — fixing those two problems as well as a couple others.”

He said a new tax formula is needed so that a million-dollar house in one town isn’t paying less in property taxes than a $400,000 home elsewhere.

Election Day is Tuesday. Early voting in New Jersey continues now through Sunday.
