PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio)Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts surprised some students on the football field Sunday afternoon.

He teamed up with CBS Sports and Kellogg’s — plus mascot Tony the Tiger — which is donating $75,000 to the School District of Philadelphia’s sports programs.

Funding for the district’s athletic programs has decreased in recent years.

The $75,000 will help start a new girls flag football program at six middle schools in the district, as well as finance rookie tackle football at three middle schools.

“I know these things go a long way,” said Hurts, “so just being out here, being able to impact and put a smile on their face and see them do what they love — playing ball — is beautiful.”

The organizations are also donating some equipment to help get the programs started.

Philadelphia school students return to classrooms on Monday.
