KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — Crews have been working fast to fix a sinkhole that opened up on Route 202 in King of Prussia Monday night, which closed a stretch of the heavily traveled road.

Upper Merion officials hope the work will be complete soon and the section could reopen before the afternoon rush on Wednesday.

Until then, Route 202 (Dekalb Pike) remains closed in both directions between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard. Upper Merion police are handling traffic control, including detours, but are asking people to avoid the area, if possible, to avoid further congestion.

It started Monday night after a water outage in the area. Crews then discovered a sinkhole had developed in the middle of Route 202 right by the Tires Plus repair shop, about 1.5 miles from the King of Prussia Mall.

Pennsylvania American Water crews repaired the broken water main. PennDOT then got to work. Road crews began paving, starting in the wee hours of the morning, and kept going as the sun was sizzling — just like the hot, steaming asphalt they were moving with their shovels.
