KYW Medical Report: The best health care consumer is an informed one

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — With the approval of COVID-19 boosters for millions more Americans, as well as the growing opportunity for children to be vaccinated, it is important to continue to clear misconceptions about the vaccines.

The best health care consumer is an informed consumer, and those who question vaccines should be given every opportunity to learn about safety profiles as well as goals.

From a safety perspective, the vaccines have been better than advertised. Nevertheless, if you have questions, you should not hesitate to ask your doctor or pharmacist.

It is important to know that all of the COVID-19 vaccines are designed to reduce hospitalizations and death. They do not prevent a vaccinated person from getting COVID-19, but they make hospitalization nine to 15 times less likely.

They also decrease the amount of time COVID-19 is in your system, and this reduces the chance of spread to loved ones.

The vaccines are working as designed. The more we can increase the percentage of people vaccinated, the better for all of us.
