KYW Medical Report: Third COVID-19 shot may supercharge immune system

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — So, where do we stand on a third dose for people who received the Pfizer or Moderna COVID-19 vaccines?

It all comes down to building antibodies and giving our bodies enough time to strengthen their internal armies.

With most viruses — which are mild and nothing more than an inconvenience — we hardly notice our bodies’ immune systems building antibodies. It is a lifelong process, but with COVID-19, the natural process left alone would have wiped out millions.

Thanks to the vaccines, people may contract the virus, but the vast majority of cases are minor.

The first two doses supercharge the immune system, but a third dose six to eight months after the second can make the antibodies 10 times stronger.
