PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The idea of a vaccine passport is gaining traction in many countries, but there are some tough social and philosophical implications.
Assuming those issues can be resolved, there are also technical concerns to factor. For any such certificate or passport to work, it is going to need two things: access to a country’s official record of vaccinations and a secure method of identifying an individual and linking them to their health record.
In the U.S., we are far behind other countries with electronic health records. One thing is certain: For those who choose not to get vaccinated, anticipate limitations on the freedom of movement and travel to these countries.
Still, access to vaccines is far greater than it once was, and with the passage of time, many initial COVID-19 fears are going away.
