PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The Delta COVID-19 variant is a health concern of both the present and the future.
It gets a great deal of attention and certainly should, as a mutated variant of the initial COVID-19 virus can spread far more rapidly. This is why it is moving so fast through our country — a job that is made much easier because there are pockets of the country with low vaccination rates.
This is concerning, but the greater concern is the potential for a mutation that would make the virus immune to our vaccines.
That is what keeps epidemiologists up at night and could send us back to 2020 all over again. It is also the major reason why efforts to encourage the vaccine continue.
