PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — COVID-19 has killed millions of people worldwide and literally crippled hundreds of hospitals, so it’s not hard to believe that for many lucky enough to survive, they could suffer a long-term impact.
Medical researchers are now starting to learn more about that long-term impact among people who were hospitalized for COVID-19.
Reports and studies are being released on a regular basis, and the numbers are mounting. COVID-19 has shown to cause permanent damage — often in a seemingly random fashion — on numerous organ systems, ranging from the cardiovascular, respiratory and nervous systems.
Certainly, those who required hospitalization have the vast majority of permanent effects, but a significant number of people who were never hospitalized have had their lives impacted by damage to their bodies.
