PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The question comes up often: If you have been infected with COVID-19, do you have better protection than someone who was vaccinated?
The CDC has weighed in.
When it compared adults over the age of 18 who either had the COVID-19 vaccine or were infected with COVID-19 three to six months earlier, the odds of a laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 case were 5½ times more likely among unvaccinated adults than fully vaccinated adults.
In other words, the vaccine was more than 5½ times more protective than actually naturally getting the virus.
What this means is that if you have gotten COVID-19 in the past, you still, ultimately, need the vaccine.
