PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The delta strain of COVID-19 seems to be more aggressive in children.
Early on in the pandemic, the message was if you are young, you should be fine. The truth then — and now — is that kids are less likely to get very sick than those older or with pre-existing conditions.
The issue today is that children under 12 are not vaccinated, and the delta variant is far more contagious. This means more kids will contract the virus, and even if the same percentage gets very sick, the number will be higher because more are exposed.
Until they can be vaccinated, the best protection is schools with routine testing, improved ventilation, vaccinated adults, and the use of masks and social distancing.
