Man charged with DUI in crash that killed 3-year-old in Brewerytown

Timothy Robinson’s car went airborne, hit a building and landed on the boy and his mother, investigators say.

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Authorities have charged a 62-year-old man for hitting and killing a 3-year-old walking with his mother Monday morning in Brewerytown while driving under the influence.

Prosecutors say Timothy Robinson was driving his vehicle when he jumped a curb and smashed into the woman and her toddler.

It happened just before 11:00 a.m. Monday on the corner of West Girard Avenue and 30th Street.

Police said Robinson hit the back of a Volkswagen several times before the driver of the Volkswagen pulled over. Robinson allegedly sped off, and his car jumped the curb and went airborne.

Investigators said Robinson's car hit a building by the corner and landed on its roof, on top of the mom and son.

The 27-year-old woman was able to free herself, and with the help of people nearby, was able to get the 3-year-old out.

The boy was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

Robinson has been arrested and charged with involuntary manslaughter, homicide by vehicle, homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence, driving under the influence, reckless endangerment of another person and reckless driving. He was also hospitalized.
