30-year-old man shot, killed in Northeast Philadelphia while holding infant in car seat

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Police say a 30-year-old man was shot and killed in a residential section of Northeast Philadelphia while he was reportedly holding an infant in a car seat.

It happened just before 7 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Hawthorne and Harrison streets in East Frankford.

Investigators told NBC10 that officers found the man laying on the sidewalk unresponsive. He had gunshot wounds to his face, neck, chest and lower back.

Police say he was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“While he was standing on the sidewalk, while he was being shot, we’re being told that he was holding a car seat with a child in that car seat that was under 1 year of age,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The child was not injured.

Police believe, based on ballistic evidence, the victim was the intended target.

No one has been arrested at this time.
