PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A young man was shot near the entrance to the Market-Frankford Line on Thursday.
It happened shortly before 4 a.m., just below the Clothespin sculpture.
Police say an 18-year-old was shot in the leg and foot near the turnstiles of the 15th Street Station. He ran up the steps and told an officer he was shot. Cops took him to the hospital for treatment.
Chief Inspector Scott Small said surveillance video shows the victim with two or three others.
“They were involved in a physical altercation, a fight, that escalated to the gunshots being fired,” he said. “We’re working with SEPTA to see if these cameras can help us identify or at least get a good description of the shooter or shooters.”
There were a few other people underground at the time, but Small said no one came forward as a witness.
He added the victim has not been cooperating with police, but they hope to talk to him again later.
For a brief time, trains skipped the City Hall/15th Street stops as police were investigating. Broad Street and Market-Frankford line service has since returned to normal.
