PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The COVID-19 pandemic has taught us a great deal about viral infections, spread and treatment. However, some of the biggest lessons we are learning have to do with how to handle public health issues as a society.
According to a report in the New England Journal of Medicine, two of the major issues centered around community spread, and the cost and accessibility of health care. The fact that community spread varied so widely indicated that some parts of the country may need to be treated differently from others. And COVID-19 again demonstrated that the cost of health care matters, and access to health care needs to be equalized with educational support put in place for all.
The article focuses on these issues, which can be as challenging as treating the actual disease, if not more so.
