CAMDEN (KYW Newsradio) — Now that the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine has been approved for kids ages 12 and older, the Camden County Health Department is working to get them vaccinated.
Some students can now get a COVID-19 vaccine shot in between their classes, as the county is hosting youth vaccination clinics at high schools with a clinic next week at the Blackwood vaccination location, where no appointment is necessary.
"I was excited to hear that they were giving it to 12-year-olds, because now I can get it," Cecelia Monforto said while being accompanied by her mom Kathleen.
Cecelia got her first Pfizer shot at Paul VI High School in Haddon Township. She was already thinking abut how it could offer a shot in the arm for her social life.
"Going more places, hanging out with more friends, just being in public without wearing a mask, maybe," she said.
Kathleen said she wants her kids vaccinated, so they can return to some of their old family activities.
"I'm just happy. I want them to return to a new normal, a better normal. Lots of day trips hopefully down to the shore. That's one of our favorite places to go," she said.
Kathleen expressed how school vaccination events make getting the shot more convenient for them, and brings her family one step closer to being fully vaccinated.
"I have a 10-year-old, so I'm hoping all the studies come out so that we can get him vaccinated," she said.
County officials say the objective of these vaccination events they're hosting at different schools is to have kids make a full return to the classroom for the next school year.
