BURLINGTON COUNTY, N.J. (KYW Newsradio) — A married couple from South Jersey are in Burlington County Jail, each facing several charges after the husband tried to run over police officers and after the wife threatened to kill them.
Just after 1 a.m., police in Evesham Township tried to pull over a driver for going 80 mph in a 45 mph zone. Officials say they recognized the car as belonging to 23-year-old Marc Ferraiolo, and they obtained an arrest warrant.
When officers went to his home to serve the warrant and take Ferraiolo into custody, police say they saw the man pull into his driveway and let his wife out of his car before trying to speed away.
The police at the scene pulled up behind him and told him to get out — but instead, Ferraiolo allegedly put his car into reverse and hit the gas — nearly hitting two officers, and colliding with a patrol car that had police K9 Tango inside.
Investigators say he drove toward the officers, believing he tried to hit them on purpose, before hitting the patrol car with the K9 inside three more times. Then he sped off.
Police say the injured officers were treated at the scene, and Tango is getting veterinary care.
Ferraiolo hit another police car that was responding, as well as a parked car nearby, according to the Evesham Township Police Department.
When his car stopped, police were able to get him out to take him to the hospital.
During the arrest, investigators say Ferraiolo’s wife, 42-year-old Ruth Patton, threatened to kill the officers. She was also arrested at the scene.
Both are facing several charges.
