PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A Mayfair resident shot and killed one of two armed intruders after they tried to force their way into his home Sunday night.

Around 10 p.m., police say two armed men forced a 25-year-old man into his apartment on Battersby Street, near Cottman Avenue.

According to NBC10, police said they demanded money, zip-tied him and threatened to kill him.

The 25-year-old, who has a license to carry a gun, then pulled out his weapon and fired.

One of the suspects was hit in the head, arm and chest. Officers arrived and took the man to the hospital, where he died shortly thereafter.

The other suspect fled the scene.

The 25-year-old victim’s girlfriend was upstairs at the time of the robbery attempt.

An investigation is ongoing.
