PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Vaccines have been at the center of the nation’s attention since the COVID-19 outbreak.
In order for vaccines to be most effective, there is a need for mass acceptance. Even when they are widely used, as in the case of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine, there can be pockets of outbreaks when certain groups refuse to get them.
Childhood vaccination fell behind during the peak periods of the pandemic. So, how has all of the attention given to the COVID-19 vaccine affected routine childhood vaccination? The full story is yet to be told, but it appears that routine childhood vaccines are becoming once again routine for young families. However, there is a growing area of concern about decreased availability of vaccines in poorer countries.
