PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — New information about long COVID is raising concerns for young adults.
From the very start of the pandemic, it was abundantly clear that individuals over age 60 and those with pre-existing medical conditions were the most likely to get severely ill or die from COVID-19. At that time, there was no way to anticipate the disease having any lingering effects on patients with less-severe outcomes.
Today, we know about long COVID, and the more we learn, the more concerning it gets. According to the CDC, about 15% of people who are infected develop long COVID and, of that group, eight out of 10 state they experience a reduction in their ability to carry out daily activities. The highest rate of activity limitations is among the 18-29 age group.
Fifteen million adults now say the limitations are real.
