PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — The holiday season can be a time of tremendous joy for many people. It can also be one of the most difficult times of the year.

The images of families and friends getting together that we see on TV or in movies can be festive and inspirational, but they also can be unrealistic. Many of us can achieve moments that are like a Hollywood movie, but we spend most of our time in reality.

For one out of every eight people, there is a daily struggle with depression that can be heightened this time of year.

For others, it is easy to fall into the trap of pressure to achieve the ideal, which can lead to stress and anxiety — and it is very important to recognize the difference between the artificial world of escapism and the real world in which we live.
