PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Most of us take our feet for granted. When something goes wrong and there is pain in our feet, it can be debilitating.
Unfortunately, one of the most common sources of foot pain can be ignored for years: bunions. Bunions are crooked toe joints that can swell and become tender. The classic example is when the big toe angles toward the other toes.
Bunions are not always hereditary, but in many cases, we see them in families. A fact consistent among all sufferers is that tight shoes can make them worse.
A person with painful bunions should see a podiatrist who can guide them through a wide range of treatments, from shoe inserts to surgery.
