Medical Report: Why will we need multiple boosters?

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — While at least a third of the country has either had one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine or perhaps two, scientists are studying those who have had three — two shots and a booster.

According to the CDC, there is a concern about the staying power of the vaccine. Clearly, the goal of getting vaccinated is to avoid hospitalizations and death, but the latest CDC information finds that after the third dose, protection against hospitalization dropped from 91% within the first two months to 78% within four months of the shot.

Most importantly, there were limitations to this study. It did not separate immuno-compromised people from otherwise healthy people.

We are learning crucial information in real time, and we have to make certain that we understand how we gain the information.
