Montco pharmacy co-owner who vaccinated thousands says he has COVID-19

HORSHAM, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The co-owner of a Montgomery County pharmacy that's helped give out 25,000 COVID-19 shots said his family has "breakthrough" cases of COVID-19. However, he says it would be worse if they weren't vaccinated.

Marc Ost is co-owner of Eric's Rx Shoppe in Horsham. He said he and his family have taken all precautions.

He and his wife are both fully vaccinated, though their two kids, 3 and 4 years old, are too young for it. They all still wear masks when they're out, they stay away from people they know aren't vaccinated, and he said everyone at the pharmacy and at their clinics wears masks.

"Even though that's not required, we just always felt we wanted to be protected, but we just didn't think it was fair for the kids to have to wear a mask and us not wear the mask," said Ost.

He said no one can say for certain how they all got the virus, but they first noticed it in the kids.

"Started with just a fever, then they woke up the next day and were coughing," he said. "That's their symptoms, the fever and coughing."

Ost said he had a sore throat and a bit of congestion. He had at-home test kits and after initial negatives, they all came up positive.

While he sort of feels like he let his kids down, not being able to protect them from the virus, he's glad he and his wife are vaccinated.

"I may have a sore throat or something, but at least I know there's a very, very, extremely slim chance of going to the hospital or death or something because I have that vaccine," he said.

"I think there's so much unknown, but I am thankful at least both of us are vaccinated. How much protection that gave us I can't say for sure. But I can tell you at least my peace of mind, I'm much more comfortable knowing I'm vaccinated."

As for people who haven't gotten the shot yet, Ost acknowledges there's probably nothing else he can say that would change their minds.
