PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — Three school districts in Bucks County have lifted the mask requirement for students based on guidance from the county health department, which is allowed under state law.
However, don't expect such a move in neighboring counties.
Michel Masters with the Montgomery County Office of Public Health said Montgomery County will continue to follow guidance from the CDC and the Pennsylvania Department of Health.
"We still have a large population of students under 12 years old that aren’t eligible for vaccine, so we still need to do the best to protect them," said Masters.
Masters said they believe it’s best to stay the course for the rest of this school year.
She notes cases have fallen significantly, credited to both the warmer weather and to the vaccine. So for now, it’s impossible to predict what the fall will look like.
Chester County’s Health Department said they are following the same path as Montgomery County, sticking to the governor’s order of any unvaccinated people continuing to wear a mask.
Pennsylvania's mask order is set to expire on June 28 or when 70% of adults in the state get vaccinated, whichever comes first.
